Mark Gross was taken to see George Cukor’s A STAR IS BORN at the age of three. In the middle of the movie, the projector lamphouse burst into flame, filling the theatre with thick acrid smoke. Mr. Gross, along with the rest of the audience, was forced to evacuate past a close-up of Judy Garland through a fire exit in the far corner of the Cinemascope screen.
He has never been the same since.

Mr. Gross has a BFA in Film from Tisch School of the Arts. For many years, Mr. Gross was managing director of an art cinema on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. He has also directed a number of short experimental films, including a collective improvisation on Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Man Of The Crowd.”
